Turning Toward the Touchable, Tangible Life
Hello Readers!
When life gets particularly lifey, as it has been for a few months now, I often get lost on the internet during my prime reading, making, being hours. When I’m online too much, it starts to feel like I’m living a shadow life. It looks like a life. It sorta, kinda feels like a life. But it’s a life mediated by a small screen in my palm—voyeur-lite if you will.
My phone is a knife, whittling away the hours. Slim shavings fall to the floor one after another, and soon I’m sitting with my feet in a pile of precious time spent poorly.
The real things happening on the other side of the screen—the opinions, the renovations, the fashion, the headlines, the travel, the outrage, the trauma, the discovery, the theories, the advice, the art, the gatherings—begin to fill the space that should be occupied by a tangible, touchable world of my own.
